Learning Where To Start
The short answer to the question, “What should I eat?” is truly, whatever you want. Here at Grindstone, we’ll never give you a strict list of do’s and dont’s. We’re not about fad diets or extremes. We know (and science has proven) that there is no one size fits all diet that works for all humans. We are all built differently, have different goals, and we all have different reactions to every food. At Grindstone though, we do swear by a few very important principles. The first is Nutrient Density.
Nutrient density is the amount of micro nutrients (like vitamins and minerals) you get per calorie of a particular food.
For example: 1 cup of spinach is 23 calories. Within those 23 calories, you will be intaking over 25 necessary vitamins and minerals and more than meeting your daily requirement for vitamins K and A.
However, you could also eat 7 Sour Candies, get 23 calories, and get almost ZERO vitamins and minerals. Clearly, spinach is the more nutrient dense choice.
No foods are more nutrient dense than whole, organically-grown foods. The reason is simple: nothing is contained in a fresh, whole organic food that doesn’t need to be there. Everything you need to stay optimally nourished is right there, packaged in its lowest calorie form.
When choosing foods, there’s no right or wrong.
We just want to be constantly asking “How much vitamin and mineral BANG am I getting for my caloric BUCK?” The more bang you can cram into one meal, the closer you’ll be to looking, feeling, and performing like the champion we know you are.
